Stainless steel flange rust removal process

Stainless steel is typically specified because of its ability to resist corrosion in a variety of environments.Unfortunately,stainless steel is not fully stain or rust-proof,it is just more resistant to corrosion.Exposure to corrosive process fluids and cleaners,high humidity or high salinity environments such as sea water can remove the native protective layer (chromium oxide) and can cause stainless steel corrosion.Removing surface rust from surfaces improves the appearance,but it’s importance goes beyond the decorative.Rust,left unchecked,can lead to pitting and structural damage to products and components and can impact the performance of instrumentation,contaminate flow paths,and impact reliability.So how to remove stainless steel flange rust? The process as follows:

Stainless steel SS316 spectacle blind flange

1. Remove all visible dirt on the stainless steel flange surface before removing the rust,then remove the oil with a solvent or detergent.
2. Use a tungsten steel blade to shovel the size of the largest simple surface or the surface of the stainless steel flange.
3. Use a scraper and wire brush to remove the rust from the corners of the stainless steel flange.
4. Remove the protrusions and various burrs from the welding slag with cockroaches.
5. Thoroughly clean up with emery cloth and wire brush.
6. Use a clean cloth to clean the tablecloth, or use a cloth to remove the solvent to clean and apply the primer in time.
7. Note that for the toughness coating film that has not lost its service, it can be preserved, and the surface of the old paint is polished with emery cloth, and the defect of the coating film is polished into an axe shape, and the paint is directly painted after being cleaned.
8. Stainless steel flange is treated with special stainless steel whitish liquid. If it is not, it is possible to destroy the workpiece. It can be reduced by 10-20% nitric acid and 5% phosphoric acid for 4 hours.
