Unlike standard off-the-shelf sealing components, this project placed special emphasis on material stability, corrosion resistance verification, and internal quality inspection. Every gasket successfully passed ASTM A262 Practice E intergranular corrosion testing, and each piece underwent 100% ultrasonic testing (UT) before shipment.

For this project, the customer specified AISI 321 Ring Gaskets, a titanium-stabilized stainless steel grade known for maintaining corrosion resistance after exposure to elevated temperatures. Compared with conventional stainless steels, AISI 321 offers improved resistance to chromium carbide precipitation, making it particularly suitable for applications where welding or thermal cycling cannot be avoided.

For the Russian project, passing ASTM A262 Practice E was a mandatory requirement. This test evaluates susceptibility to intergranular corrosion, a hidden form of attack that can compromise stainless steel performance while leaving the surface appearance largely unchanged.

Successful test results confirmed that the material retained its corrosion-resistant properties and met the customer’s technical expectations for long-term service.

Another notable aspect of this order was the requirement for full ultrasonic examination.

Rather than relying on sampling inspection, the customer requested 100% UT testing for all manufactured pieces. This approach helps identify potential internal discontinuities before installation and reduces the risk of unexpected issues during operation.

For large-diameter stainless steel ring gaskets, especially those used in pressure-rated systems, comprehensive inspection can significantly improve project reliability and maintenance planning.
